After all my good intentions to publish a short blog every single week, unsurprisingly I failed at the first hurdle but my defence is that lots has been happening, but when doesn’t it….. However, I have felt compelled to put pen to paper because I am so proud that our fabulous Meals of Wheels Team have won the Charity Champion at the North East Lincolnshire Heart of your Community Awards 2019! Several team members attended a glittering awards evening at The Humber Royal Hotel last Thursday and at 21.32 I received a message from a delighted Lindsay, one of our dedicated Meals on Wheels Coordinators. The message simply said ” We only went and WON!!” What a wonderful accolade to a great service that makes a daily difference to hundreds of older and vulnerable people and apparently the telephone has not stopped ringing since!
After a particularly difficult year personally, things have definitely started improving and I am now proud to say that my learning disabled brother is now being supported by the wonderful Living our Lives team in his own bungalow in Brigg. It is great to see how happy and thriving he is and it was a special moment when I received a phone call from him saying “don’t bother calling in this evening, I’m going out”. Feeling immediately protective and a bit put out (he always wanted me to go and see him!) I demanded to know where he was going and was told “a party with my support worker” During another recent visit to him, he told me that he helps with the cooking now; I had to quash the temptation to tell the staff that he is not allowed to use the cooker etc but quickly realised that this was exactly the sort of life he wanted and that at 46 years of age, he has the right to choose what he does. If Care4all provides services that are good enough for my brother (and understandably I’m a bit fussy!), then I am proud to say that they are good enough for everyone.
